Black Stars book 2022 World Cup playoffs spot with Andre Ayew’s strike

The senior national team, the Black Stars have booked a place in the playoff spot of the 2022 World Cup.

Ghana secured a 1-0 deserving win against South Africa in the final Group G game at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday.

The four-time African champions hosted the Bafana Bafana in the crucial decider.

Having dropped two points against Ethiopia in the matchday 5 games against Ethiopia at the Orlando Stadium, Milovan Rajevac and his charges needed a win against Hugo Broos’ side who were on top of the log with 13 points to ensure their spot in the playoffs.

After wasting some half chances, Ghana were presented with a golden opportunity to take the lead when Daniel Amartey was heckled in the box by a South Africa defender.

Captain Andre Ayew stepped forward and perfectly slotted in the ball for the opening goal on the 33rd minute.

The South Africans came hard on the Black Stars in the second half but the team held onto their lead and ensured they keep their win.

The win means the Black Stars now top Group G with 13 points same as South Africa but with a goal difference.

The result means Ghana join Mali, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt and DR Congo to the play-off stage of the World Cup qualifiers.
