Doku could move to Liverpool to deal with AFCON dilemma over Mo Salah and Sadio Mane exits

Liverpool are allegedly planning to bring Rennes winger Jeremy Doku to Anfield in January.

This is due to the fact that star strikers Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will be representing Egypt and Senegal, respectively, at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The competition, which will be hosted in Cameroon, will take place between January 9 and February 6, and will involve a handful of Premier League players.

And top-flight teams might be without their African players as early as December 27, but managers will be hoping to reach an agreement to release their players later.

Klopp has expressed his disappointment at the loss of Salah and Mane, admitting that he is unable to stop them.

“We knew it (Salah and Mane’s absences), we have to deal with it and we will deal with it. How? We will see in January,”

“People now say we have to sign two strikers with the same quality of Sadio and Mo,”

“That cannot be a solution as we cannot do that, so we have to find a solution for that in January.”

However, according to the Express, Klopp may only bring in one forward – Rennes’ Doku.

They claim that the Merseyside club might speed up their ambitions to sign the Belgium international, whom they have been tracking since Euro 2020.

Liverpool are already thought to be in pole position to sign the 19-year-old in 2022.

It is said that the Ligue 1 club would be willing to part ways with Doku for a sum in the area of £38 million.

Doku has appeared in just four games for Rennes this season, with no goals or assists.

He has not played since August 22 due to hamstring and knee problems.
